HDMI and DVI are both used to transmit digital signals from high definition devices to HDTVs. What if I have a DVI device, but only have HDMI inputs on the TV?

Most people would choose HDMI over component without a question. HDMI has both digital audio and video and it is capable of 1080p resolutions on many source devices. Component has analog video with no audio and while it's capable of 1080p, most source devices currently do not support 1080p through component. However, when it comes to actually deciding which video standard actually looks the best, you may want to read further.

Cable Specs Overrated?

On older high definition sources such as the Xbox 360, cable box, or an up converting DVD player, it is recommended that you try both cables and see which looks better. The reason for this is that some devices only support early versions of HDMI which transmit the signal at a lower bandwidth. In some cases, component video is actually a clear winner versus HDMI on older AV equipment.

If you use HDMI for your cable or satellite box, I recommend trying both cables. Why not? HD television programs are still broadcasted in 720p and 1080i. So when it comes to older AV recievers, DVD players, and cable/sat boxes try both cables and you be the judge on which looks the best.

Now and the Future

For newer source devices, HDMI is the way to go. Current HDMI specifications are capable of resolutions even higher than 1080p! The only problem is that TVs and source devices still need to catch up to such capabilities. HDMI also has Dolby Digital and DTS audio capabilities. Component does not carry audio and a separate cable is needed to run the audio from the source to the display.

In a Nutshell

HDMI is clearly the winner when it comes to new AV equipment. However, I recommend trying both on older source devices and displays.

3. In cases where you are using HDMI-DVI or an HDMI hub or some other piece of equipment in the connection series, try to rule out that piece of equipment first by temporarily removing it.

4. Try other HDMI ports on the TV.

5. Adjust the display settings.

If you get no result then send your PS3 away for repair and you will probably have to.

1. Wait up to 6 weeks to get it back.

2. Pay 0 for what is the manufacturers' problem.

3. Lose your hard drive data.

4. Worry about whether the repair is permanent or Not. If it happens again in 3 months time then it could be another 0.

Whatever model of PS3 you have, all problems and all models can be repaired using the PS3 repair guide. The methods used are entirely safe and are the exact methods used by the producer of the PS3. No need for fancy or costly equipment. Your machine can be fixed today using common household items.

There really is a better way to end your PS3 HDMI problems and get back to playing your favourite games again today.
